Slovak President meets with Ban Ki Moon

During his official visit to Kenya, Slovak President Andrej Kiska met with former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Nairobi, at the latter's request. Ban Ki-moon stated his appreciation for Slovakia's continued commitment to United Nations, as evidenced by Foreign and Slovak European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák stepping forward as a candidate for the role of President at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly. Ki Moon commented that the main challenges for the next President of the General Assembly are progress in global cooperation on migration and refugees and the implementation of international commitments of the Paris Climate Agreement. President Kiska stressed the "moral duty Slovakia has, as a modern and prosperous country, to help others," noting examples of long-term development activities in Kenya by Slovak non-governmental organisations, volunteers and funds from official development assistance provided by the Slovak Government.
