The President's Office of the Slovak Republic received a letter from chairman of the energy regulator URSO Jozef Holjenčík on Tuesday in which he announced his resignation as of today (Feb 8), TASR learnt from Roman Krpelan, communications advisor to President Andrej Kiska, on Tuesday. Holjenčík's term as head of the Regulation Council will also come to a premature end today. Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that Holjenčík was stepping down on Monday, a move that was confirmed by URSO spokesman Radoslav Igaz. Holjenčík himself announced his resignation as early as last Thursday (February 2). Holjenčík came under fire earlier this year both from the coalition Slovak National Party (SNS) and Opposition parties after energy prices were hiked for many consumers.
