Motion rejected: meal vouchers won't be replaced with money

Employers won't be able to choose whether to provide meal vouchers to their employees or pay an appropriate sum of money instead, as Parliament rejected an amendment to the Labour Code to this effect on Tuesday. The amendment was sponsored by the Opposition OĽaNO-NOVA party. "Currently, meal vouchers are used by employees for family grocery purchases at supermarkets more than to buy lunches at restaurants," reads the text. According to OĽaNO, the system brings no benefits to ordinary people and even hinders them from deciding how to use their own money, which would otherwise be paid to them by employers in the form of a financial bonus. The amendment also stated that financial contributions for meals should be exempt from income tax.
