EU foreign affairs ministers met in Brussels on Monday to discuss the worsening situation in eastern Ukraine. The EU still insists that the annexation of Crimea was illegal, and it still lends full support to both the implementation of the Minsk Treaty and the immediate ceasefire and continuation of peace dialogue. In this respect, Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák pointed out that the council of ministers has returned its attention to the Ukrainian crisis only after a 13-month hiatus, which is too inconsistent in his view. "From our perspective, Ukraine is the most important issue of all," said Lajčák. "It's our direct neighbour and the EU needs to know what to do next, as the prevailing situation is not good in terms of either military or political developments."
