The Slovak Technical University in Bratislava (STU) has become a member of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) in the field of raw materials. As STU rector Robert Redhammer said, this brings students and teachers opportunities to cooperate in more global research and to work with the most important companies and research institutions in Europe. "It's an admission into the European elite club of technical universities," said Redhammer. EIT was set up by the European Commission in 2008. It has gradually created several centres for education and innovation focusing on climate, health care, information technology, and in 2014 also a centre for innovation in the field of raw materials.
