Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is attending an informal summit of EU leaders being held in Malta's capital Valletta on Friday. The informal meeting is a follow up to last year's Bratislava summit, which initiated a political discussion on the future of the EU after Brexit. European Council President Donald Tusk sent a letter to the leaders before the Malta summit in which he warned that the potential collapse of the EU would lead to European countries becoming dependent on the United States, Russia and China. According to Tusk, Europe must pass effective measures that would turn the prevailing public mood around and breathe new life into aspirations regarding closer European integration. Among the key topics of discussion in Malta will be the migration route leading from the north African coast via the Mediterranean Sea to Italy.
