Regional and municipal elections will be held on the same day as of 2022, with Parliament green lighting a constitutional amendment to this effect by 109 votes on Thursday. Currently, local and regional elections are held separately, with regional elections scheduled for this year and municipal elections for 2018. After 2022, all candidates - in regions as well as in towns and villages - will be voted into office for four-year terms. "For voters, this means they will elect these bodies on the same day and in the same place, which will not only save time but will also increase visibility of the elections," reads the explanatory report from the coalition.
