Anti-extremism police unit created in Slovakia

Slovakia has underestimated the new wave of fascism and extremism sweeping Europe and Slovakia, stated Prime Minister Robert Fico, laying part of the blame on social networks and internet-based groups. Fico added that social networks are often without rules or responsibilities, with information and sentiments emerging which are not in line with the State. "Reacting to words simply isn't enough; it's essential to repress them," stated Fico at a press conference on Tuesday, where he unveiled a new police unit charged with tackling rising extremism. The new unit comprises more than 100 police officers and falls under the control of the National Criminal Agency. At the press conference, Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák stated that conditions are being created for this new police unit to "work undisturbed", claiming that he expects exceptional results from the unit. Police Chief Tibor Gašpar commented that the formation of such a group was necessary due to societal demands.
