The state owned railway transport operator will replace the intercity trains run by the privately owned RegioJet. These are being withdrawn as of February 1. Despite this fact, rapid services from the west to the east of Slovakia will run 4 times a day. The state operator, Zeleznicna spolocnost Slovensko, estimates that the loss caused by running more IC trains will reach about 3 million EUR this year. RegioJet has announced that it will run more trains between the Czech capital Prague and the eastern Slovak city of Košice.
