Slovakia has slipped downwards in terms of perceived corruption in 2016, finding itself in 54th place on the Transparency International world ranking. Although actually retaining its former score of 51, the country's actual position has worsened by four positions due to the improvement of other countries, making Slovakia's position the seventh worst place in the European Union. Those EU countries worse off than Slovakia are Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Italy, Greece and finally Bulgaria. Conversely, the countries having the lowest amount of perceived corruption were New Zealand and Denmark. The worst country was Somalia, resting in 176th place.
