The use of scientific databases, which haven't been accessible to Slovak researchers since the beginning of this year, was resumed on Monday, the Education, Science, Research and Sport Ministry communications department confirmed for the TASR press agency on the same day. Slovak scientists weren't able to use the databases, provided by a company called Elsevier, as the ministry failed to sign an agreement on access to them. The Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information (CVTI), which comes under the Education Ministry, is directly commissioned to ensure access to electronic information sources for the academic community in Slovakia. Access to scientific databases has, for a long time, been covered via EU structural funds worth several million euro annually.
