Slovak transport companies increase costs in Austria

As of January, the Austrian government requires Slovak companies to comply with Austrian legislation, wrote the Hospodarske noviny economic daily. The Slovak employers are now obliged to pay their employees at least the current Austrian minimum wage. This rule will affect mainly Slovak transport companies. While the average salary of a Slovak truck driver is 691 EUR in Slovakia, it will be at least 1420 EUR in Austria. If they break the local law, Slovak companies will face fines of several thousand euros.
