There's a continuing risk of ice floods and a first-degree alert is in place in the Žilina region, in the Prešov region and in the eastern Slovak districts of Spišská Nová Ves, Gelnica and Košice-okolie, announced the Slovak Hydro-meteorological Institute. "In view of the frigid temperatures, we are seeing all sorts of ice formations on the water - shore ice, brash ice, anchor ice, ice jams and ice cover, which all impede the flow of water and may trigger, or have already triggered a surge in water levels, especially in small rivers and streams. Water levels may reach and exceed flood levels," stated the institute. In addition, a first-degree low temperature alert is in place for most of central Slovakia and some neighbouring districts where night time temperatures as low as -22°C remain possible until Wednesday.
