A total of 153 political parties are registered in Slovakia at present, but 89 of them are in the process of dissolution, TASR has learnt from the Interior Ministry's press department. Not a single party was established in 2016, while two parties entered the dissolution process (New Democracy and Tip). Another two (Magnificat Slovakia and 'We Do it for Children - SF') were removed from the registry of political parties. At present, the ministry has no record of applications to register a new party, nor have any applications been made to change the name of an existing party. As a rule, a prospective party needs to collect at least 10,000 signatures from the public before it can request registration with the ministry.
