Weather alerts issued due to low temperatures

Slovakia has been experiencing record-breaking winter in recent days and the Hydro-meteorological institute expects low temperatures to continue even in coming days. First and second degree level low temperature warnings were issued for both Tuesday and Wednesday covering the entire country apart from the Bratislava, Senec and Dunajská Streda districts in the south-west. Moreover, a third degree flood warning was issued for the Liptovský Mikuláš district and first degree alerts were issued for the Ružomberok and Martin district (all in central Slovakia) due to major rivers being blocked by ice floes. Some of the lowest temperatures of the past three decades were measured all across Slovakia last weekend. Minus 29.6 °C at the Lomnický Peak in the High Tatras is the lowest temperature at Slovakia's highest weather station since 1987, according to TASR. The lowest temperature of all was minus 35.2 °C, which was measured in the village of Oravská Lesná, northern Slovakia, making it the third coldest night since the village began keeping temperature records. The central Slovak spa town of Dudince broke its local record for the lowest temperature since records began with temperature falling to minus 30.3 °C.
