"I'll remain in my post for now", said Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák (Smer-SD) at a press conference on Wednesday. Kaliňák was asked whether he intended to resign from his post following the end of the Slovak Presidency of the EU Council, as rumors had suggested. The Opposition wants to oust Kaliňák over his alleged involvement in the tax fraud scandal concerning entrepreneur Ladislav Bašternák. Kaliňák, who is also vice-chairman of the strongest governing party Smer-SD, explained that his ministerial post depended on the trust that the prime minister, coalition partners, caucuses and majority in Parliament placed in him. Meanwhile, Kaliňák stated that in the next six months his ministry will return to issues from last year that couldn't be addressed due to the Slovak Presidency of the EU Council.
