As of the end of 2016, Slovakia has still not ratified the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combatting violence against women. The state acknowledges the document, however it has already postponed the deadline of its ratification twice; currently to June 2017. The Justice Ministry argues the delay is due to the complexity of the related legislation's preparation.
