Firefighters from Dunajská Streda and Veľký Meder were called to a vehicle accident on Tuesday evening (December 27) between the towns of Okoč and Topoľníky in south-western Slovakia in which a bus driver was injured due to debris from a passing vehicle's improperly secured load. "While driving, a truck passing in the opposite direction released a metal rod which pierced the windshield and impaled the bus driver in the upper half of the body. Subsequently, four passengers onboard the bus suffered injuries," said Trnava County Fire & Rescue Spokesperson Júlia Kedrová. Firefighters rescued the injured driver through the use of hydraulic systems and handed him to the care of emergency medical services.
