Police chase ends with warning shots being fired

A police pursuit took place on Tuesday (27 December) on the road from Pezinok to Slovenský Grob (Bratislava region) which ended in police discharging their firearms. The incident occurred after police attempted to stop a Volkswagen Passat vehicle in Pezinok with a licence plate reported as being stolen. "The driver did not respect instructions given to stop the vehicle, heading towards Slovenský Grob at high speed. The driver continued driving dangerously and threateningly, by anticipating police actions and driving into the opposite side of the road, ignoring police demands," said Spokesperson for the Bratislava Regional Police Headquarters Michal Szeiff. Police finally managed to stop the vehicle in a built-up area by firing warning shots into the air. Police officers then seized the 35-year-old driver and 33-year old passenger. Subsequent enquiries showed the driver was not allowed to drive and an investigation into the event has commenced, with the possible criminal charges of vehicular theft and police obstruction to follow.
