Small and medium-sized hospitals will begin withdrawing their terminations of contracts with privately owned health insurer Union within the next few days, the president of the Slovak Hospitals Association (ANS), Marian Petko, confirmed on Monday. They had given notice to terminate their contracts with Union after the insurer demanded the return of additional payments that it had made to the hospitals throughout this year. Union defended this demand by pointing to "insufficient financing of the system". The insurer revised its stance after the latest round of talks earlier in the day, however, and the hospitals will be allowed to keep the payments in their entirety.
