Teachers' salaries to rise by 39% by 2020

Education Minister Peter Plavčan (a Slovak National Party nominee) hopes to secure sufficient financial resources for the ministry and teachers. On Sunday in a discussion TV show In Politics on the TA3 channel the minister also added that teachers' salaries should rise by 39% by the end of this Government's term in office. "My task is to increase the public's awareness of the importance of the education system," said Plavčan. The education minister also plans to continue with the dual education system, which should enable young people who do not intend to go to university to combine the benefits of an in-work apprenticeship and classroom education. Plavčan also talked about the ministry's plans to respond to increasing threats of extremism and radicalism in society. He highlighted the extension of opportunities for schools to take children to Auschwitz or some other commemorative locations that show where extremism leads and what its consequences are.
