Effective solidarity – a bonus of the Slovak EU Council Presidency

The European summit in Brussels did not achieve agreement resolving the migration crisis. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, however, praises the fact that the term "effective solidarity" appears in the conclusions of the Council of the EU. He findsdiscussions of other means of help and solidarity as an alternative to accepting refugees to be an important point of the Slovak presidency of the Council of the EU. The Slovak suggestion to let countries chose what kind of help they would prefer has not been accepted. He feels that the atmosphere of migration crisis debates has improved. "If Malta continues in talks that go beyond just whether we accept refugees or not, then there might be decent results," said Robert Fico ahead of the date when Malta takes over the presidency of European council.
