Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak finds the appointment of Rex Tillerson as the next US secretary of state an interesting choice. "It can be assumed with a large degree of certainty already at this stage that [future US] foreign policies, and also policies in general, will be more results-oriented and tilted more towards pragmatism and less towards ideology," said Lajcak.
He confirmed that he was already in touch with people from the future US administration who expect more business figures to join the next government. The Slovak Minister didn't want to speculate on whether relations with central Europe would improve after the new US president assumes office in January 2017. The foreign affairs minister is in favour of holding an EU summit - attended by EU Member States and the United States - at the earliest opportunity in order to discuss issues openly.
