Slovaks dissatisfied with the quality of their democracy

Up to 40 % of Slovaks find the quality of democracy in Slovakia to be bad or even miserable. Only about a quarter of the population is happy with the situation. This is the result of an opinion poll on the perception of democracy in Slovakia commissioned by the INEKO, Institute for economic and social reforms. The least satisfied are the voters of the far right Kotleba Our Slovakia Party, the centre-right OLaNO-NOVA and SaS parties and non- voters. On the other hand, the most positive are those who cast their ballots for the SMER-SD party and the nationalist Slovak National Party, which are members of the current coalition government. The director of the INEKO institute, Peter Goliaš, added that respondents dislike politicians for elevating their own affairs or the interests of their allies in the business sector over the universal public interest.
