More and more Slovak citizens are reported to be flying to the UK to do Christmas shopping this year, because prices there have dropped for those coming from eurozone countries such as Slovakia. Airlines catering for this trend have reported an increase in ticket sales, Aktuality.sk reports.
"Currently, [the pound] is weaker by about 10 percent against the euro compared with the period before the referendum," analyst Jana Glasová of Postova Banka said. Slovaks have become interested not only in traditional post-Christmas sales, but they are heading for London ahead of Christmas.
"Among the European cities, London in increasingly popular. Slovaks like to go shopping, but they also go there for New Year's Eve celebrations. There are cheaper flights, their sales have increased by 24 percent over last year," director Joseph Trejbal of the portal Superletuska.sk said.
