Last week, the fifty seven member states of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) approved candidacy of Slovakia to chair the organisation in 2019. According to the organisation's website the chairmanship "is held for one calendar year by the OSCE participating State designated as such by a decision of the Ministerial Council. The function of the Chairperson-in-Office (CiO) is exercised by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of that State." According to a report of the TASR press agency, the organization's goal is to promote stability, peace and democracy in Europe through political dialogue, shared values and practical measures. Slovakia will take over the leadership from Italy, which will chair the OSCE in 2018.
