Over €192 million in EU funds will be spent on four road construction projects following a decision to this effect by Transport, Construction and Regional Development Minister Ján Počiatek. Počiatek decided on granting funding for the construction of, for example, D1 highway from Hubova to Ivachnova (Žilina region) and the bypass around Banovce nad Bebravou (Trenčín region) on the R2 expressway.
The projects to be covered include the mending of an accident-prone road section between Lučenec and Rimavská Sobota and the reconstruction of the first-class road in Polomka (both Banska Bystrica region). According to Počiatek, work on the first two of these projects should be launched in the next few months. With that in mind, he expressed his satisfaction at the conclusion of the national administrative procedure that was needed for covering the projects from EU funds and at the approval of the European Commission's technical experts. "At the same time, we're paying close attention to critical sections on first-class roads, the reconstruction of which can also be covered from EU sources," said Počiatek. According to the ministry, close to €1.2 billion has been earmarked for road projects within the 'Transport' operational programme from the EU's Cohesion Fund and Slovakia's state budget.
