Average salary in Slovakia climbs to €889 per month

The average nominal monthly salary in Slovakia reached €889 in the third quarter of 2016, a year-on-year increase of 3.3 percent, the Slovak Statistics Office reported on Tuesday. Decreases in consumer prices caused real monthly salaries to go up by 4 percent y-o-y. When seasonal effects are taken into account, the average salary rose by 1 percent quarter-on-quarter. The highest average nominal monthly salaries in the period concerned were recorded in the following sectors: in financial and insurance activities (€1,563), in supplies of electricity, gas and steam (€1,517), and in information and communications activities (€1,672). Conversely, the lowest average nominal salaries were recorded in accommodation and catering services (€593), in other activities (€622), and in construction (€655). With respect to regions, the highest average nominal monthly salary was recorded in the Bratislava region (€1,116) and the lowest in the Prešov region (€689). All regions recorded year-on-year increases, with the biggest increase of (6.2 percent) seen in the Trnava region.
