The allowance paid by the state to personal caregivers who take care of disabled individuals will increase to €247.61 per month, according to a new law passed by Parliament on Wednesday. It introduces other changes too. For example, parents who have taken care of their disabled child from birth will now see their pension contributions covered by the state for the entire period in which they assisted their child, instead of to the current age limit of 18 years. In practice it means that the old age pension of such a parent would increase from €127 per month to a minimum of €311.10 depending on the number of years spent as a caregiver. The law also gives visually impaired people more freedom with using guide dogs in public spaces.
