Five Slovaks share the honour of being awarded the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize. They are current or former experts of the Hague-based Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the body that received the prize this year.
Ditta Ciganikova, Katarina Grolmusova and Marian Ruzovic, are the three Slovaks currently working on monitoring chemical weapons in Syria on behalf of this organisation. “For me personally, it is a great honour. It is the ward of former colleagues too, like Ervin Farkas or Ladislav Belicky for example. This prize means even greater responsibility for us in fulfilling our duties under the Chemical Weapons Convention,” said Ciganikova adding that she enjoys the multicultural environment of the organisation.
