Fair-play Alliance and Via Iuris announced the winners of the ninth White Crow Awards on Thursday. These awards are given annually to whistleblowers who challenge unethical or corrupt behaviour at great personal risk, or to those who perform courageous civic deeds that benefit the public. This year's awards went to Monika Podolinska - a teacher working with Roma children, Jan Bencik - a blogger who exposes extremist activities and Khadra Abdile and charity worker Emilia Trepacova for having the courage to confront verbal insults and physical attacks together. Somali refugee Abdile is the first laureate from abroad.
