Member States support more money for migration & security issues

EU-member states are overwhelmingly in support a motion sponsored by the European Commission which aims at bolstering allocated resources for addressing extraordinary migration and security problems, said Government Proxy for Slovakia's Council of the EU Presidency Ivan Korčok before the session of the Council of the EU for General Affairs on Tuesday. The meeting will revolve around the revision of the EU's 2014-20 budget, as the European Commission has proposed earmarking extra resources for extraordinary events. "So far, there is full support for such a move on the Council: that means full support for the Commission, which proposed a hike of more than €2.5 billion," said Korčok. Korčok rejected claims that the Slovak Presidency proposed to cut the budget of the Erasmus programme by 50 percent. "Our motion is the exact opposite - we're adding a further €100 million," he said, speaking of the programme budgeted to receive €15 billion within the seven-year period. "Furthermore, another important proposal tabled by the Slovak presidency concerns our fight against youth unemployment, where we'd like to promote a hike of €1.2 billion within the seven-year EU financial framework," said the proxy.
