Police found no evidence of buying votes

Police have ceased their criminal investigation into the Smer party MPs Peter Chudík and Stanislav Kubánek for allegedly buying votes. They have instead brought a charge of perjury against Roma inhabitants from the locality of Lomnička who initially informed the public broadcaster RTVS, as well as police, that they voted for these MPs in exchange for cigarettes, then later changed their statements. According to Police Chief Tibor Gašpar, police could not charge the MPs with electoral corruption. RTVS, however, found another witness who confirmed a votes for cigarettes deal in the same locality. The Police chief has said that investigators will look into the statement from this new witness.
