The European Union is to contribute to new innovation and the modernisation of lock chambers within the Gabčíkovo dam complex on the Danube River. Minister of Transport, Construction and Regional Development Árpád Érsek (MOST-HID) has already signed a contract on the provision of financial support worth nearly €123 million from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). Of the overall project budget of €144.7 million, national co-financing will represent €21.7 million. The groups in charge of the project to ensure smoother and safer transportation on the Danube are Agentúra rozvoja vodnej dopravy (Water Transport Development Agency) and the state-owned construction firm Vodohospodarska Vystavba.
