President displeased with how large-scale corruption is investigated

The Gorilla case is ten years old and despite having been investigated for more than five years we have no conclusions, but only mutual accusations in the media between Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák (Smer-SD), Police Chief Tibor Gašpar, and the outgoing head of the investigation team Marek Gajdoš, said that Slovak President Andrej Kiska, who met the chief of Slovak police Tibor Gašpar on Tuesday morning. The Gorilla scandal involves alleged corrupt deals between one of the partners of the investment firm Penta and senior politicians. "It is necessary to make a summary, in order to say what we know and what we do not, who failed and who did well. The police chief should stand up and make it. The Gorilla case is a weeping wound in our society, a wound in people's confidence in the rule of law," Kiska said. Police Chief Gašpar says he agrees: "If the investigation team leader Marek Gajdoš decided to make the summary earlier, I would not be against it". Gajdoš will leave the Police Corps at the end of this year at his own request. When explaining his request to leave the police to the media, Gajdoš insinuated that he'd been intentionally obstructed in his investigation of the Gorilla scandal. Special Prosecutor Dušan Kováčik was allegedly involved in this conflict with Gajdoš. "I've always loved being an investigator, but the conditions under which I've been working have been intolerable over the long term. Honestly, regardless of these reasons, I felt the need to change my working environment after 17 years of state service," said Gajdoš, who met with the Slovak President last week. The parliamentary defence and security committee dealt with Gajdoš's resignation and the investigation into the Gorilla case at an extraordinary session in late October. The investigator was not allowed, however, to take part by order of his superiors.
