Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák has refused to comment on the case of alleged financing of the so-called Islamic State by a Syrian national resident in Slovakia. He explained that due to an ongoing investigation he is unable to provide any further details.
The Syrian in question allegedly used illegal VAT refunds to finance the IS. Finance Ministry State Secretary Dana Meager, who first drew public attention to the case, pointed to potential links between tax fraud and the financing of terrorism.
