The public administration reform known as ESO (Efficient, Reliable, and Open public administration) has saved €130 million this year, Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák stated at a press conference on Thursday. A further €105 million is predicted to be saved due to structural changes, along with another €54 million due to the subsequent sale of property.
“The ministry has processed a comprehensive analysis on the operation of more than 400 institutions and organisations in the Slovak Republic, and has worked with all the other ministries in the discussion on austerity measures,” said Kaliňák. He pointed to the Agriculture Ministry that, for example, runs 63 institutions, 57 of which are to be restructured and undergo changes. Many authorities are to be shut down or merged together, added Kaliňák. “There will be 1,000 less jobs in public administration year on year in 2014,” claimed the minister, adding that it is not only the number of jobs but also some public salaries that are to see cuts.
