Beijing slams Bratislava over President Kiska’s meeting with Dalai Lama

A few days before the visit of the Dalai Lama to Slovakia, President Andrej Kiska met Chinese Ambassador Lin Lin to explain the personal reasons for his private meeting on Sunday with the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, said Kiska's communications advisor Roman Krpelan. He was reacting to a statement by the Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry which said that China would retaliate against Slovakia for Kiska's meeting with the Dalai Lama. According to Krpelan, the Slovak president assured the Chinese ambassador of his interest in continuing good relations between the two countries. "He highlighted that the meeting wasn't in any way meant as a challenge to Slovakia's unequivocal attitude towards the one China policy," Krpelan said.
