Industrial production up 17.5 percent in August

Slovakia's industrial output went up by 17.5 percent year-on-year in August 2016, the Slovak Statistics Office announced on Tuesday. This development was influenced by hikes in manufacturing of 18.9 percent; in mining and quarrying of 6.7 percent and in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supplies of 7.3 percent. Total industrial production was mostly affected by year-on-year increases in the following sectors: in the manufacture of transport vehicles - 44.5 percent; in the production of metals and metal structures excluding machinery and equipment - 9.9 percent; in the production of rubber, plastic and other non-metallic mineral products - 7.7 percent; and in the production of electronic devices - 17.6 percent. Seasonally adjusted industrial output rose by 28.1 percent month-on-month in August. In the first eight months of 2016, meanwhile, industrial output increased by 3.5 percent y-o-y, with an increase in manufacturing of 3.9 percent and in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supplies of 1.1 percent; and a decrease in mining and quarrying of 5 percent.
