The state of health of former Slovak President Michal Kováč, who was hospitalised on Friday remains serious but stable, said Interior Ministry Spokesperson Ivan Netík on Sunday. As the Nový Čas daily reported, the former president was first placed in the cardiac intensive care unit. His condition suddenly worsened and doctors had to put him into an induced coma. As the media reported on Monday morning, he is conscious again. Michal Kováč has been suffering from Parkinson's disease for some time. He was the first Slovak President between the years 1993 and 1998 after the separation of Czechoslovakia on January 1, 1993.
