Slovak teachers continue their gradual strike

Teachers continued with the third weekly edition of their so-called gradual strike on Thursday. More than 2,200 teachers from almost 190 elementary and secondary schools skipped their first three classes of the day. They did not teach only two classes last week and one class was not taught two weeks ago. Teachers are unhappy with the only 6% salary hike as of this September and the other 6% hikes planned for each January from 2017 to 2020. They claim these measures will not make the job of a teacher more attractive. The unhappy pedagogues demand a hike in their salaries by €140 per month in 2016 and by an additional €90 as of 2017. They also require a reassessment of education available for teachers and increases in the budgets of the Interior and Education Ministries totalling €400 million.
