Slovakia commemorates the 168th anniversary of establishing the first Slovak National Council on Monday. The Council was located in the western Slovak town of Myjava. It was founded by a writer and first council speaker Jozef Miloslav Hurban who named the institution "The representation of the Slovak nation". The establishment of the council was part of a national uprising which took place between 1848 and 1849, led by Hurban together with the creators of the Slovak language Ľudovít Štúr and Michal Miloslav Hodža.
