On Monday evening the Ministries of Finance and Labour came for talks with trade unions with a reworked proposal suggesting an equal €13 monthly pay rise for civil servants, firefighters, and members of the police corp.
Trade unions have asked for a rise of 4.2 percent in the salaries of civil servants, teachers, and social workers as of January 2014, but the Government is ready to grant them only a one percent rise. No deal has been reached so far. Salaries in the public sector have been frozen since 2010. The debated pay increase concerns about a third of a million of people.
