Four out of five Slovaks who heard of last week’s protest of nurses and midwives in front of the Government building, sympathise with their cause. This stems from a phone survey done by the Polis agency across a nationwide sample during the three days the nurses spent camping there. They asked for better wages and working conditions.
Most supportive were the voters of opposition parties but 63.5 % of those who would vote for the ruling party Smer-SD expressed their support too. About 58 % of respondents think the situation within Slovak healthcare is deteriorating.
