On Wednesday, the EU Council approved the creation of the European Border and Coast Guard, reported TASR. According to the agency, the guard should start operating in the middle of October. Slovak Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák, who took part in the negotiations in Strasburg, praised the speed and the effectiveness of the discussions. According to him, the guard will improve the ability of EU member states to cooperate and face challenges together. The European Border and Coast Guard will be made a part of the Frontex EU external border protection agency whose responsibilities will be extended along with border patrols of particular member states.
