As of the end of next year, the number of soldiers in the Slovak Armed Forces should grow by almost 600. Thus, their total number will exceed 17,000 people. The number of civil employees should go up by more than 800. According to the Defence Ministry, the reason behind this step is an extension of some battalions and regiments as well as a reorganisation of the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces. The proposal regarding this change is currently in interdepartmental review. Its goal is to create conditions which would allow Slovakia to fulfil its duties within NATO and the EU and other international agreements.
