Slovaks still support European Union

52% of Slovaks support the European Union, according to the findings of research conducted by the non-governmental organisation Globsec. Thus, from among the central European countries, Slovakia is the second most pro-EU country, behind Hungary. However, Slovakia is the most pro-Russian country in the region with 12% of its citizens claiming to be pro-Russian oriented. Slovakia leads in the anti-Americanism sentiment as well, with 59% of its citizens seeing the role of the US in the world negatively. More than half of Slovaks are against building NATO bases in the country and almost half of them believe that a neutral status of the country would be better than membership in NATO. "Interestingly, almost a third of young Slovaks have more trust in alternative media, and their number is growing," reads the research.
