Teachers plan to strike in spite of hike in salaries

As of September 1, teachers' salaries have grown by 6%. However, the Slovak Teachers' Initiative has announced a new protest, which should start on September 13, as teachers and other employees in the regional education system do not consider their requirements to be fulfilled. The initiative claims such a pay rise will not make the job of a teacher more attractive. Moreover, they emphasise, that the government is ignoring the salary level regarded as suitable by the OECD and European Commission. Teachers held a six week strike at the beginning of this year.
