Slovak scientist Jan Vilček receives SAV‘s honoris causa title

Professor Jan Vilček was awarded the title "Doctor of Biological Sciences, honoris causa", at the Slovak Academy of Sciences on Thursday. He is one of the world's most quoted immunologists. His research has led to many practical applications in medicine and recently it has been used primarily in the form of a drug known as Remicade, which reduces the effects of substances in the body that cause inflammation. "I'm really impressed and very, very grateful for this outstanding honour. I really appreciate it and I find it symbolic that I was given the title in the SAV building and in the Institute of Virology, where I started my scientific career," said Vilček, a native of Bratislava, who has been living and working in New York since his emigration in 1965.
