Slovakia remembers death of Svetozár Hurban Vajanský

A significant Slovak writer, publicist and politician Svetozár Hurban Vajanský died at the age of 69 exactly one hundred years ago, on August 17, 1916. Vajanský was the leader of the young Slovak generation in the 1880s. He worked as the chief editor of the Národnie noviny or the "National newspaper", he wrote for several magazines, was a member of Slovak National Party and some other important public groups. Vajanský was imprisoned three times during his life for his published work as he was a fighter for the Slovak nation within the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
